NEW MUSIC!
I got two new Cd's this past month that have grown on me SO much. Mika's 'Life In Cartoon Motion' and Sophie Ellis-Bextor's 'Trip The Light Fantastic'. Both Cd's were OK at first, but a couple times through I'm really liking them.
For the Mika CD I of course did the totally legal thing and checked it out from the library and copied it. I only knew the first song from the album, however it is now the last song, "Happy Ending", that I am in love with. It's only been a week or two and my iTunes count is up in the 30's already. I can't begin to describe what makes the song so beautiful to me, but its just the chorus singing, the layering of voices and different parts, and the instrumentals. It just really makes me feel so good about everything.
The Sophie Ellis-Bextor CD has a bit more of a story. A lot of people don't know who she is, but she sings "Murder on the Dance Floor". My friend's responses are usually, "ohhh, thats her..." Too bad I don't know that song huh? Anyways, she sings this song called "If You Go" and after having trouble finding it, I found it was on this album, 'Trip The Light Fantastic'. However, this album has not been released to the United States yet. This just pissed me off. I was sure I could find some way to get the song from I tunes or another online music store, NO. I found the song on iTunes UK, but unfortunately, the iTunes UK store won't let you buy anything from it. I suppose it was just the fact that I wanted one SINGLE song, and I COULD NOT get it, so I tried what I knew would work. After trying for about a week of finding the song, I just said screw it, and I found it on eBay and bought the whole album there. It didn't turn out too bad either, it was only $7.50. I love eBay :) So now I have the album, and all the songs have grown on me a lot even in the past 24 hours.School:
Two classes worth mentioning today. MGT 101 (Introduction to Business) and ENG 105.
I start out my day on M/W/F 's with my MGT classes. Today was a day of realization. My class will have things to do with Business, I'm sure it will, but for now, it's basically a WELCOME TO COLLEGE! :) ! class. Shoot me? I could vent about how the teacher talks to the class as if we're all business majors, but the truth is that at least half of the class are business majors, the others are genuinely interested in the class. I'M there because it was the ONLY class that I could find that was open and fit my schedule. What bugs me more is that we spend today going over "Survival Tips for College!" Then he talked about how we should entertain the idea of an internship after our Sophomore year because it is a "smart idea". I'm sorry, but I've been in college a semester now, I know that not that long, but I don't think I need my teacher telling me "sleep is important" and "studying helps" at this point in my life. And I've already set up my internship for next fall, so yeah, thanks for the advice but just teach OK?
I know it's not that big of a deal now, but it bothered me today. So sorry if you read all that, I suppose I got out most of my frustration during lunch today.
I really like my ENG class. As some people know I switched sections of ENG the third day of classes, and trust me, it was SUCH a smart decision. (Thanks Jenny for the advice!) My teacher is actually interesting and as a class our mix of ideas and backgrounds are proving not to be as lame as some of my discussion classes last semester. It's somehow hard to write about, but I'm actually enjoying going to this class. Which is nice seeing that most of my classes this semester are required basic level classes.
I think I flipped my semesters around. This semester I'm taking these basic level classes that ALL of my teachers have some sort of strict attendance policy. I'm only taking one class that counts towards my focus area, which is PL 201 (Introduction to Planning and Land Use Management). The class seems OK for now, but my teacher told me about another course offered, Planing Sustainable Communities. I want to take that one! She said it is only offered in the fall, and I'm most likely not going to be here then. So fall of my 3rd semester? We'll see, it sounds really great to me though.
Last semester I took my core classes for my major through the end of my sophomore year. So each class had a number of people not only with the same or similar major, but people who had the same interests as me! It sounds strange, but if you're a music major, all your classes have music majors in them, people who you know that you have music in common. I hadn't found anyone with the same interest in the environment as me until I came up here, and it was so nice. However this semester seems to be laking in that department, oh well, hopefully if I can still apply environmental aspects to my classes this semester, it could give me a chance to expand my understanding of other's and their thoughts towards the matter. I was lucky enough to have classes that were 2, or 3 and a half hours apart last semester, a chance to go home and take a nap. This time around I have to suck it up like most people and have classes from morning till afternoon everyday. It isn't TOO bad, but I've been spoiled.
Well this turned out to be a rather huge blog! I'm sure no one read all of it, which is OK because I know I wouldn't! It's actually rather hard to use proper punctuation and capitalization all the time, who'd have guessed?
Anyways, its almost 4:00PM now and I have a little bit of school work to get to. Then 5:30 is the first TBS Rush even of the year! Movie Night! I hope its a good move. Then I have a Service Committee meeting at 9:00 tonight, exciting! And I still need to finish Lost season 3! There are only 9 days till the premiere of season 4 and I still have 15 or so episodes left. No worries, I'll finish.
Thanks for reading!
